This is a permanent installation Mural in Goldman Sachs by Julie Mehretu. Unlike her Guggenheim Grey Area art-piece where the artwork clearly depicts and demonstrates the decay of Berlin in relation to a building, the Goldman Sachs building does not have any distinct signages as an architecture. People that don’t work at Goldman Sachs sees the artwork through the heavy windows of the building. Even if you enter the building you aren’t allowed to take photos of the paintingThe mural can only be seen at an oblique angle since the security guard simply won’t allow you to access that area of the building, funny enough, employees also don’t need to pass that area to get to work. There isn’t really a proper documentation (photowise) for this mural however you can view it on youtube.
The conceptual idea that received criticism for this “mural” is the idea of public art. No doubt Goldman Sachs is a private corporation whose policies dramatically affect our economic lives“I don’t see it as an evil institution, but as part of the larger system that we all participate in. We’re all a part of it,”
